A national passenger rail operator
Redesigned the reservation platform from a monolith to an AWS event-driven microservices architecture.
Challenge
The reservation monolith was hindering product velocity, on-train integrations and peak-load reliability. Leadership wanted a cloud-native rebuild without breaking the deep partner and channel ecosystem built around the legacy APIs.
Approach
- Analyzed business needs and recommended candidate solution patterns.
- Integrated IT solutions within the reservation domain and across other domains (loyalty, on-train systems, channels).
- Produced and maintained the IT architecture plan with target rules and transition strategy.
- Defined migration playbooks to shift functionality to AWS Lambda / SQS / SNS without simultaneous partner re-integrations.
- Communicated detailed specifications and shepherded implementation across teams.
Outcome
The target architecture was adopted, reducing monolith-induced release risk and paving a path to on-train mobile integrations that would have been prohibitive on the legacy stack.
Technology stack
SOA, Microservices, REST, JSON, AWS Lambda, SQS, SNS, on-train mobile application architecture
Estimated return on investment
Estimates are directional, based on comparable modernization benchmarks. Actual savings depend on starting baseline, scope and execution discipline.
